Hello everyone! I've been extremely busy in the studio the past few months and i can tell you that many things are happening with this little business of mine and MANY more to come. Exciting!

But, my Mod Owls, well, Summer and Fall, were recently featured on the today Show! Their 60th Anniversary special to be exact this past Friday. Frank Fontana from HGTV picked items that he felt worked for a low budget nursery. Let's face it, the majority of the economy now is doing just that. I am so honored that Frank and Posh Tots picked my owls for the show, they looked great! Please watch the video and enjoy. Ok back to work and football practice.

Hello everyone:) I feel like sometimes I have to make a grand entrance when I appear on this blog because I'm not consistent about it. I'm just an extremely busy artist with three growing boys who are involved in everything from sports to friends. They are getting older, 15 14 & 11, to be exact.

And my 15 yr old, who's about to be 16, will be driving his own car within a couple of months. :/

I've become very busy with this art life of mine which I love. Besides painting for Mariah Carey and Nick Canon, I've been doing work for many other people also. Love My New Printer:)

Taking a break to brag about my new printer! I love it, it makes the most beautiful prints, and you will love them:). I finally splurged a few months back on my new Epson R2880. Used with archival pigment inks that are guaranteed to last a lifetime. These beautiful babies are printed on Hahnemuhle paper. It's an eco friendly paper also that's made out of sugar cane...love that!

Hello everyone.....it's been a while and i hope everyone realizes that I've been very busy. I obviously put my clients first before I blog since I'm barely on here. It's hard but the orders are stacking:).

A month ago, I had the honor of working with Gail Sedigh of AFK.

Creating gorgeous nurseries in LA Ca. is was she does best. Everything, from her own line of furniture, decor, linens, drapes, and accessories......she brings it all in. She is the manufacturer which is even cooler.

So when Mariah asked for Gail to create her nursery for her two little babies.....Gail was so sweet to think of me to do Mariah's dreamy ceiling. I also painted the window and the scene inside for her. It was a pretty garden scene with little lambs in it. But, after I left, Mariah loved the ceiling so much that she wanted the clouds to be in the window. so she hired a local artist in LA to copy my ceiling. I think the garden scene actually would have been pretty in the room, but the dreamy sky...is breath taking:). It was an amazing experience and met some amazing people. Along with Mariah and Nick themselves.

I also was happy to here that my ceiling is her favorite part!......Thanks Mariah!

Winter Studio 2011

I snapped this photo this morning of my studio. As many of you know and those who don't, it sits in the left section of my home, here in Fort Worth Texas. We are experiencing snow and ice this past week, which keeps me all tied up between entertaining my boys and filling orders. Speaking of orders..these name banners below are a couple of some new ones being shipped out. I also have new characters that I introduced at some trade shows last week and were a huge hit. I'll be loading them on my ETSY shop over the weekend....so stay tuned.

Snowed and Iced in :(

Just letting all my customers know to expect a 3-5 day delay on any orders that have shipped within the past 3 days. UPS and the postal service have notified me to let me know, since I'm a frequent customer. Texas, the Fort Worth area that I live in is under ice, which makes driving conditions horrible and in some areas not possible. I can't even ship out any more orders until this Friday..maybe. OK...now I'll go back to painting and hibernating.

I'm busy preparing for two shows at this very moment and through next week. One is in Dallas and the other in Los Angeles. Show preparation is extremely exhausting and exciting all in one. The excitement honestly is what keeps me going. I have some new products that I'm introducing to my stores and I'll post some pictures next week. They and the rest of the world are going to love them! Well, I'm off to Dallas today to repaint the showroom wall and start setting up....start...I only said start...much to do.

Hello everyone! Happy New Year! It's been a while since I've been on the blog but it's great to be back. We had a busy holiday and was surprised with family house guests....it was great. I love my family and was so happy to see them this holiday season.
I'm also very excited for 2011! It's busy for me as I'm still working at the swim school and preparing for two shows for my wholesale accounts. And my ETSY..of course. I have lots of new little paintings that I'll be loading daily and I'm very excited to introduce many more large paintings of Hawk and his friends. Hawk is going to start traveling! That's right! His first stop is New York...I can't wait to show you what I've been working on. I'll also be delivering new art to some galleries in which those will be posted for anyone to purchase as well.

A Project You Won't Want To Miss!!!

Have you ever had that space in your home where a tiny piece of art would fit perfectly? Oh wait...I know you have that space in your home somewhere...we all do. It's that little spot you walk by many times wishing for the perfect piece of art to put in it's place. I can tell you that I have many of them actually. And, slowly I've been trying to fill them up with my own art and art from others artists. And I mean affordable great art. It doesn't have to be expensive, just something that catches your taste and style.

So a couple of weeks ago I was determined to tackle one of those spots in my family room. The room where we gather every night and when friends come over, everyone ends up there. It's almost done as far as decorating goes and I've lived in this house for six years now. Well a year ago I created the large abstract on the left, which fits the room and colors well. But the right of it has needed something ever since. My husband, who I constantly tell has no design bones in him, came up with the idea to add little paintings next to it. At first I said no in that I just didn't see it, and him of all people suggesting it. But the more I looked at it, he was right. It needed exactly that.

So I created little pieces of art, little landscapes actually, and they turned out great. You can see that on the right of them I have these wooden open shelves and that's what really made it look like something was missing. The little landscapes are painted on wood that are only 3 1/2"x 3 1/2" big...they are tiny and so cute. The space really came together after I placed them on the wall. And of course...I praised my husband for his good sense of design:).

So with all that..this post brings me to a special project I'm going to create. It's called the "Tiny Small Art Project". Starting this Friday I'll be creating little pieces of art, 5x7" size that will be sold for only $40 to US customers and $50 for International customers. Those prices do include the shipping. I will only be creating 50 tiny pieces of art in this project and each one will be different. The art will include landscapes, still life, and even some abstracts thrown in. I will post pictures of each piece for purchase on my blog and through facebook. It's a first come first serve basis...should be fun. And, if your looking for a perfect gift for someone this holiday season...this would be it. I'm even willing to take custom orders if you want something created and want it to be #5 in the series. I will have all the details Friday afternoon along with the first piece for sale.

Sweet Mobiles :)

I thought I would post on my mobiles today since they have been quite a hit. It's the little things that we add to a room that really makes it all come together. I have raindrop mobiles that come in pink, green, orange, and blue. I also offer a paper airplane mobile thats made out of wood also and all these can be found in my ETSY shop.

These mobiles are made out of eco friendly wood and the colors are simply sweet. And from what my customers tell me, they are using them in all sorts of rooms....of course mainly a child's room/nursery. They're painted with non toxic acrylic paints and then sanded buttery smooth and sealed with a non toxic sealer. I'm actually working on another one but won't be out until the beginning of next year. Moving Along

These past few weeks have been crazy busy.....to say the least. Football season will be coming to an end here in the great old state of Texas soon and I'm thankful. I've enjoyed my boys playing of course, but it has definitely taken me away from a lot of my work. I'm still illustrating a book and supplying to my stores as well. I've been so busy that the new art in my brain for the past few months, well, it's still there. In the coming weeks I plan to create some much needed new pieces. I'm leaving you today with a little piece to the book I'm illustrating now. I've created so many monkey's and each one has always been different. I love the expression I created for this one...his mouth is full of bananas. Well I'm off to create and enjoy my 13 yr. old last football game tonight. Have a great day! Marnie V.

Summer....Summer

This Summer I think has to be my all time busiest yet...and i didn't even go on vacation. My boys have gotten older which means sports camps all summer long, birthday parties, and summer evenings with friends. I also took it easy on a little work and business. Well, I mean...I ran my business, filled orders, but in more of a summer leisure fashion I should say. My orders have been steady all Summer long which was great and you know me..just fitting it in to driving around to sports camps every day.

I'm sooo ready for the rest of this year! I'm creating new art for my stores...so excited. And I'm also going to be adding NEW MODERN abstract paintings to my Home Decor section on my website:). The best part is that they will be within a low price range of $40-$75 for sizes ranging in 8x10"s and up! Busy is the WoRd!

Hello again.....I'm back. Not that I meant to be gone anyway, but I've been devoting my time to massive orders of painting and I'm illustrating a children's book. Above is the storyboard for it. And I've also been just busy with life in general. I honestly think this has been my busiest year between my kids and my work. I guess that truly means my business is growing :). This is the last week of school with my kiddos and I can't wait for the stress relief. As your kids get older...it's true, you stress more and about everything. My oldest is going into High School next year and just the thought of college right now makes my stomach turn. My boys are very good students, and in advanced classes...I stress success a lot to them. I actually fed that into there brains at an early age...and it shows. I Hate Computer problems.....

Wow! It's February and March is around the corner. We've had the worst winter here in Texas and we all know how my computer loves cold winter weather and don't forget thunder storms in the spring. I've had the worst computers problems lately. That's pretty much why I've been a little absent to this blog.
My day consists of when the computer works..I can get shipping labels printed, email customers, and try to upload photos. I can't wait for summer!
I've included some recent work that was sold to a client that has a Westie terrier. She loves my work and wanted her dog included. They turned out great....Thanks again Kathy!

I'm welcoming myself onto this blog actually. I've been so busy...honestly...I think the end of 2009 was my busiest of the entire year. And with Christmas thrown into the mix, made it even crazier. I didn't even have time this year to bake for neighbors and friends for the holiday and who knows what they thought about that. I've made treats for people every year and this season it didn't happen.
I also had a solo art Hawk show at a local modern art gallery in my town. I've actually sold quite a few pieces but there are still more left. Above are some that are still available. I have another show(gallery walk) that's going on in a couple of weeks also so that should be pretty busy as well. I've been painting a lot of Hawk.

I also made the decision to close down my Dallas showroom due to the fact of the economy and the buyers for stores just aren't attending shows due to the economic status. It hasn't affected everyone, just for some reason me in Dallas. I'm not saying I won't return but for now my Los Angeles showroom Thea is booming :) Thanks to my fabulous rep Brandi! Humbugs of the Holiday Season

Just thought I send a Holiday Greeting of Ba Humgug! to the Postal worker who stole four shipments of art two weeks ago from me. And to the Postal Service as well who completely acts oblivious to it all. My items were even insured and had tracking. And this is their answer, " Well...we just can't locate them." "We will contact you when they are found." Yeah right!

Just what I need when I'm preparing for a solo Hawk show next week.

Hectic.....schedules

Hectic schedule is the story of my life these days. I'm busy painting preparing for my first solo art show on Dec. 11th. Hawk will center stage and I'm so excited. My personal life is full also. My boys are finishing up there football seasons, wrestling season is starting, and my husband just finished his Masters Degree. We are so proud of him. He walks this Friday night and I'm hosting a huge PARTY for him this weekend...which I'm trying to get ready for as well.
Did I mention we have a Super Bowl football game for my son Austin's team and a wrestling Tournament on Saturday. I'll let you know how I survive.

And in the mix of all of this, I of course still have time to schedule Jason with Munfy.com, to come take some Christmas photos of my boys. Above is my oldest Jacob. He truly is an amazing son. He's 13..almost 14 on Dec.15th, just finished his football season and now it's wrestling season. Our theme for these photos was football, as you can see.
They came out amazing and soon I'll be posting more...well, in a couple of weeks.

So, I won't be on the blog much over the next couple of weeks due to life functions, Thanksgiving, and preparing for this HUGE art show. :)

It Finally Happened to Me!

Well, it happened. I just found out yesterday by a fellow artist who was also copied that my art was being sold on another website. Not only was she taking my design, but the idiot actually forgot to photoshop out my signiture from the photo she stole from me. Do you see it here..."the Ballad of Sir Lucky Lion"...that's mine. Straight from my own website J.AUSTINRyan.
She also sold these other pieces from these other artists and sold them as ORIGINALS. Thank goodness for other artists who aren't afraid to speak there mind for she has closed this shop because of us. Then we find out she has another shop selling more works from other artists.
And...what do I find on her other shop...my ART! Here below is MY MOD OWL that is super popular, was in the Southern Living magazine idea house and has been featured everywhere. I sent her a nasty email last night and she did close this shop as well.

We actually think she has another shop which you can read about here. I just met Corra who was also an artist that was copied. I think honestly what bothers me the most is that she not only stole from us, but she stole money from the customers she sold these items to. I would be pretty upset if I found out that I purchased some art from a copy cat. And I would absolutely want my money back. She better hope none of these artists contact her buyers.

I'm so upset about what has happened and I will be acting on it, in which I'll keep you posted on.
I'll be back later or even tomorrow to post more, but I have work to do. Funny thing is, I'm actually shipping out today these same exact REAL ORIGINAL works of mine to REAL CUSTOMERS. Honestly, I actually consider everyone who ever bought art from me...that the value just doubled! Congrats!

Hello everyone..yes..I'm here. I've been a busy bee as usual. I just booked my 1st art show though...whoo hoo. I am so excited and nervous. This show will be completely different than the wholesale trade shows I usually attend, but I think in a great way. I won't be giving a sales pitch while people are viewing my over 70 pieces that I plan on having at this show. But, I will be of course be mentioning that the artist herself will sign the piece you buy.
I'll be posting more art as the weeks go by so please check back. I'm working on a project for a custmer and have two trade shows coming up in the next couple of weeks..wish me luck.

What Keeps Me Going...

I sometimes feel like I come on this blog and complain about all the computer issues I have, but OMG I have them. I have had two viruses within the last two weeks, in which I've been late meeting deadlines. I'm afraid to even mention to clients just because I don't want them to think I'm a flaky artist, and I'm not. I usually get comments on how fast i turn things around. But let me tell you when you live in Texas and it rains for SEVEN days straight, and I mean flooding rain, and your computer is WIFi...you are bound to have issues. I haven't been able to load anything on either of my sites and not able to load pictures period. Then yesterday...I finally got a picture through. I have had 3 weeks of feeling so frustrated over the issue but things are starting to turn around. By week 2 I actually just decided to myself there was basically nothing I could do and to just focus on my kids and painting. So you'll see a lot of new things popping up in the ETSY shop this week. They are made out of eco-friendly wood that hang from a simple rod, which then hangs directly from the ceiling. I am offering them in pinks, yellow/greens, blues, and orange tones(not shown). What Vacation

I'm back from vacation...well, I've been back actually. The picture above is me and I completely look exhausted in this picture, which cracks me up because I was. It was the most rewarding and exhausting trip I have ever taken. We had a blast though and so did my kids. The picture below is my son Austin walking along the Vietnam Memorial checking out all the names of the men who died. If you look there is a reflection with my husband David and my son Jacob in the picture as well. It was really something to see.

I came back over a week ago but have been slammed in work. And honestly, I'm still slammed, so if i don't make it onto this blog everyday for the next couple of weeks...just bare with me. I just finished a show in LA Cali. and am currently having a show in Dallas, which I'm not even attending. Let's hope my showroom rep writes some good orders for me. With all the work I have to do and throwing my 12 year old a birthday party tomorrow, that's my excuse for not attending. I'll be sure to come back on next week to post on a few new items and about my first art show in a gallery ..that I am so excited for. Well...it's time to get this party going!

So Where should I Start!

Hello everyone. I've had quite an interesting last couple of weeks...mainly why I haven't been on this blog. My computer has had a virus and still does...and I'm still trying to get it fixed. I've been working off a laptop and my husbands computer, but since everything is mainly linked to mine, I've been unable to even load new art on my Etsy shop and my main site. I am so frustrated...I can't even tell you. I am also sorry to those who I haven't emailed back, because it was my business email that got attacked by a nasty virus. I will get back to you and hopefully soon.
And on top of this I've had numerous things falling apart in my home, car, and kids that have needed to get fixed. Let's just say when it rains, it pours. Oh...and I'm leaving this Thursday for vacation. We are taking our boys to Washington DC for an entire week to see some history. We are very excited and I'm hoping my home /work issues get resolved before I leave.
While I'm gone, my shops will be still open and I will be checking my emails frequently if you do need to email me. I do have to say that the nasty virus did allow me to get all of my recent show orders and store orders out...which feels amazing since I'm about to go on vacation. Well, I'm off to take my son Ryan to the Doctor to check his ear...swimmers ear that didn't clear up.

I have mentioned a friend of mine before, the artist Kathleen Coy. She is an amazing and talented artist. She is so good at animals and from what I've seen...she can paint anything. I already had her paint Hawk and for Father's Day she painted my other little dog Cali. She is my husband's baby girl...literally. And he was so happy, surprised, and over joyed when he opened to find this piece that Kathleen had created. Great job Kathleen..I'm already thinking of what I'll have you create for me next.

Don't mean to post and run, but I just found out that my show this week actually starts Wednesday and not Thursday....I'm screaming . I guess I won't be lounging by the pool today like yesterday. Marnie V.

A Recent Custom that was COOL!

I recently was commissioned by some clients from Dallas to create some art for their kids playroom. I actually did about four pieces for them, but stupidly forgot to take pictures of everything. But I luckily did take a photo of the biggest. The painting above was 4 feet x 4 feet (HUGE)...seriously it was big. They basically loved my Raining Mister Elephant painting but wanted more characters and really wanted the African amazon feel with trees and such.

I added monkeys and a funky orange giraffe.

And a deep rich blue striped zebra for fun.

Even the water I gave a wallpaper feel to it..they loved it. I've just emailed the Jennifer the client to see if she could take photos of the room and send it to me...it is the cutest little space with even a fireplace in it, and this painting is hanging above the fireplace. It looks amazing!

This week I'm busy painting orders and I'll be finally loading more into my Etsy shop. My boys are in sports camp all week so at least I'm getting a little piece and quiet for half the day.

Remember a week or so back when I had donated a painting to charity similar to this one. Well, I had a customer see it who completely fell in love with it, but it was already donated and already purchased by the lucky bidder. So then I offered to create one that was similar but I added another planet to make it completely her own. And the result is the one above. It turned out amazing, and Denise my new customer loved it. And her son, who is ever so cute and pictured below, seems to love it as well.

My New Space

Just like everyone else in this crazy economy, I also did a little cutting back this year with things concerning my business. In Dallas, I cut my showroom space in half to save on half the rent and it was honestly for the better. I think because now when people walk up the art is right there in front of them, where as before they had to come in and look to the sides. so, I'm actually getting more exposure...which I love.

My new name banners are so sweet and the perfect addition to a child's room.

Even Hawk is being sold in my stores...he is getting very popular. I also have some other characters in the works as well and I'm about to get them tested which I'll talk about later this week...crazy law. Well, have a wonderful day- Marnie V.

These are the boys of summer. There days will be filled with wrestling and football training. Texting girls...which drives me crazy. Numerous trips to the neighborhood water park. Swimming all day in our own pool which will result in a few swimmers ear infections. Movies in the park. Our big trip to Washington DC, which I haven't mentioned yet. Required reading everyday to get ready for the next school year. And let's not forget how much work I won't be getting done on time because of these three. Gotta love summer! Marnie V.

New Updates, a Show, and a Feature!

There is so much going on in my life and this biz that I really don't know where to start. My website J.AUSTINRyan is getting updated with new content, color changes, new images, and more features. These will all hopefully be done soon. My customers who have been ordering, well, let's just say I've been getting phone calls to place orders, since my site has been down.
I also had a photo shoot with the ever funny Garrett who is pictured above, he'll be popping up on my site as well.
More and more stores are adding my art which is honestly amazing and scary as well, my biz is growing and I basically just sat my kiddos down to tell them they are the new maids of the house this summer. Yea...those were the words that I told them when they came home from school today, which was there last by the way.
Other news, I have a Dallas show that starts tomorrow and I can honestly say " I am ready for it!".... gosh that felt good. It's a four day show and hope to pick up some new accounts.

Seriously! What else!

Collage above is a custom Rocket Dog I'm working on right now for a client.

This past week has been seriously unpredictable, and not in a good way. We have had a few bad storms these past few days, and last night being the worst. I looked outside and it was basically a hurricane type whatever, even though we are not even in Hurricane season.
The bad thing is these storms cause my internet to go WACCO and it turn reflects on me not getting any computer work done at all. I have two trade shows coming up within the next couple of weeks so I'm scarily a little behind.
On top of all of this, football ends this week with my boys, parties and all..school ends next week, so I need to go find teacher gifts and i go crazy doing so. And because our weather has been so crazy with the temperatures dropping and rising, my boys all have sore throats and the sneezing thing. We are battling football injuries as well...oh yeah...I could seriously go on and on.
But what topped it all off.
MY POOL IS GREEN! I hate when my pool is green. And, one of my neighbors behind me, there fence blew over into my yard last night...of course. Now I have to go around the block, bring our Home Owners Assoc. papers with me, and explain how since a certain part of the fence is on there side that they need to repair the fence. I'll let you know how that goes.
Ok..I'm done complaining and somewhat feeling a little better for doing so.

Home Preview- My Son Austin's Room

Hello....just taking a break from a HUGE custom job I'm working and I need to step away from for a little bit. I've been showing little bits of my home every couple of weeks and today I'm bringing you my youngest son Austin's room. He is a serious trinket collector, football lover, book reader, and the sweetest 9 yr. old ever! The letter A above I made when we first moved in, the wood came from scraps that my house was built with. Oh and the foot on the wall...that's a football fathead...of course.

Austin's bed where he loves to read. These are some of his favorite books, but he switches them out from time to time. The little wooden box usually has some sort of special rock or whatever in it, and clay mask he made at school.
When he was a baby, he loved Curious George, and I wish I had pictures of his nursery. Just picture, modern furniture, butter cream walls, vintage prints of Curious George on the wall, toys in baskets on the most adorable scalloped bookcase, and vintage charm.
And of course, my first ever Rocket Dog that I painted adorns a wall in his room.

His trophies that he has earned sits along his shelf. The shelf shown actually wraps around his entire room. I built it myself...a lot of work but completely worth it. Austin loves putting things on display in his room. The picture on the left he colored and received second place in an art contest.
The famous walkie talkies( not sure is i spelled that right), that he is always having me carry one around the house...just in case he needs me to bring him something.
I also installed this garage bead board in silver then added hooks and string so Austin could play with all his little men. This is below the shelf and a really smart idea I had, he loves it.
And...what better thing to hang on your door than a "Are you fan enough" sticker. It's football related...I know..didn't get it at first either.

Bubblegum Love

With the art appreciation sail in full swing, here's another I added to the shop today. It's titled "The Bubblegum Fox" and I really love the colors I chose for this little painting and if you love to it's available here in the shop. My inspiration for this painting came to me last night as my oldest son Jacob was begging me to buy him some bubblegum. You see, he has braces on so his craving for bubblegum that he always chewed in the past is really being missed. I tell him he has a year to go...I'm so mean. And honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he sneaks a few times or more until then. It's been a little crazy around here lately and sorry for my absence. I'm still filling LA orders which will be finished this week and I finally finished this piece that I've been working on for charity. It is so cool. I used reclaimed vintage papers for the world and acrylic paints for the rest.
I even love the font I picked...it kinda has a retro feel to it.

I'm also donating a Hawk plush pillow to go along side of this fabulous painting, which I believe is a must have. I've mentioned before that this pillow is even cuter in person.
On to some ETSY news. I'm going to be starting a BIG sale in my ETSY shop this Thursday. The kicker is nothing in the shop now is going to be on sale, it's what is going in on Thursday. For the whole month of May I will be releasing small ORIGINAL paintings for a fabulous discounted price. I'm talking $25 for a 5x7" and $20 for a 4x6". YES...isn't that an amazing deal. The art will be of Hawk and his friends, some flying rockets, and just plain simple art for a perfect spot in your home. Happy earth Day everyone. It's finally beautiful weather here today in Texas. We have had so many hail storms, rain, and I'm done with it. It's in the 80's today and I'm still feeling stressed out about all the work that needs to be done by me. That's really the main reason as well as to why I haven't even gotten on this blog....YES...stressing about finding the time to blog. Well, a little walk with Hawk this morning definitely sparked my spirits ..a little bit. I was also reminded by my son Ryan today as how well I hold in my stress. He was leaving for school today and I had mentioned how much work I had to do today, and he just laughed. He said, "What do you have to do that is so much work?" I replied in a sweet little voice, even though I was at first thinking how dare he, " just a little painting."
Well, enjoy this Earth Day as I will be stressing about getting my orders out on time, but I always do.

An Eco Product for 2009!

I'm stepping in today from a week of extreme painting. I have been filling store orders and I'm still going. I thought I'd show a new product that I introduced at my last show in Dallas. I wanted to introduce the hawk line more with the blocks, so I decided to start making name banners. They are doing well, and they are so cute. I recommend my stores to order a boys name and a girls name and they get a complimentary ring of about 25 color block samples. I also recommend mixing light colors with bright colors, it really makes the banner even cuter. Then the customer gets to choose two character blocks of there choice to place at the ends.
And the best part, is the whole product is eco friendly. From the chemical free wood, non toxic paints, non toxic sealer, and hemp string.
Another thing I'm working on are more little Hawk paintings that will be entering the shop tomorrow afternoon and Friday, the theme is Earth Day. Can't wait to show...time for Football practice!

The Drawing Lesson

As you know with my three boys, are nights are filled with their sports activities and homework. My youngest son Austin loves to draw. He really doesn't pose much interest in wanting to be an artist when he grows up, so I think he just enjoys spending time with me. In that, he is always asking for a drawing lesson.
When we lived in California, my boys were sent to a Montessori Preschool. And to help with the tuition, I taught art classes to all the children twice a week. Let me just say that ever since then I have the most respect for teachers, it's not easy. So I would give the children a warm-up at the beginning of each class in that there were two blocks shown on a piece of paper. The first block would have different shapes and lines on it. The second would be empty. The children would have to mimic the same exact placement and shapes as I did in their own block. At first the warm-ups would be simple and as the weeks went on, they had more shapes and even characters. But, the best part is that the children got better and better each week at learning to look at something and having to draw the same thing. It also taught them a lot of patience.

So Austin still loves when I give him these warm-ups and I love to see his improvement.
Above is one we did last night. The X's going down are the beginning of the columns. The blue circled blocks are mine. The far left column I did all three and you can see how well Austin did. The second X column I only did the fish and he copied me. The other two, he did the first block and I had to do what he did.
Another great thing about this exercise, it makes children really sleepy for bedtime!

New Art- Polar Mountain

I completely forgot to introduce one of my new paintings for 2009, it's titled "Polar Mountain."
I don't really know what exactly inspired me in the design of this piece except that I have been wanting to create something with Polar Bears for awhile now. And I of course wanted to throw something out into the industry that was completely different than every other Polar Bear art I've seen.

I also wanted to add some a sort of old fashioned charm to it with my old school hiker, he is so cool when you get up close and check out his threads. And raindrops have been coming up in a lot of my paintings lately that they just came out in this one as well. So I guess you could say this painting shows a goofy hiker who definitely jumped off the fashion train a couple decades ago, a cool ice cap mountain, and my polar bears. The best part about this painting, if your into a not so matchy matchy, which I'm not, it goes with anything. Thanks for looking! Marnie V.

Spring Pics!

A few posts back I had mentioned that I would start showing bits and pieces of my home. So today I decided to take some pictures of my front garden. It's been a work in progress over the last couple of years and it's finally looking the way I had planned. And with Spring finally arriving here in Texas... my flowers are really starting to bloom.

This vine growing over the arch is Jasmine and their is a mother bird and her nest tucked inside.

The window above is my studio. I get really sidetracked sometimes watching the birds, rabbits, and squirrels that enter my yard....and the pretty flowers of course.

I'm Back! Finally.....

I'm finally showing my words again. And I'm sure you thought I was busy painting, creating invoices, and recovering from 2 trade shows. Well, your right! All-in-all considering this crazy economy....I opened up some new accounts and met some wonderful new people along the way. I also took a few days off to spend with my family(the boys) since my hubby has been out of town. Of course, spending time with my boys involves football practice, football games, swim practice, sleepovers( I did have one night to myself..it was fabulous!), and we did manage a few games of scrabble. Well, I'll be back tomorrow, but don't know when, and for now I'm off to UPS!

So....I'm in between shows right now and my boys are on Spring Break, which I'm still adjusting to. I'm having a hard time getting invoicing done, painting, and other business needs due to football practice every night...thanks coaches! I've been wanting to create a piece with an elephant for some time now but I just couldn't get it out of my brain. Well..as you can see, it finally came out. Can you imagine having these two ever so cute critters living with you, well Christy Marchand can, and they do. Christy, who is an amazing stain glass artist, contacted me about doing an illustration piece of her two little critters. Buster is the skunk, who was a gift from her daughter. And Gustav, actually came in during Hurricane Gustav in Louisiana...so you can see where he got his name. I was so excited when Christy contacted me and told me so much detail on their behavior and how they are during a normal day. She even sent me UTUBE footage of them...and that was hilarious. Basically, Gustav the squirrel is the active one and Buster loves to sleep. But Buster definitely loves to be played with with all the photos I saw. This was truly one of my most favorite projects so far. And here it is...Gustav is trying to snatch Busters snack, while he's asleep of course.

I thought I'd stop in this morning and show you some new banner ads I've been working on. These are going on a new site that will be launching next month called the Giggle Guide. I can't link you to it because it's not ready. Its basically an online resource/yellow pages for the baby and child industry. And if you make and type of product for that industry, I highly encourage you to jump on board. I signed for a year of advertising with them and know it's going to be well worth it. My Pretty Calendar

Just thought I would post today on this fantastic deal of a beautiful calendar I bought from
Lotta JansDotter. It's made out of linen with a hand silk-screened calendar on it. It was only ten bucks and it comes in three different colors...you can go here to purchase one for yourself. I wouldn't wait too long though, these are just so pretty even in person. What caught my eye was the simplicity of it. I wouldn't dare show you my real calendar, it's full of deadlines, scratch marks, my son Austin's doodles, and spilt coffee. Anyways, just thought I would post on a great find. Tomorrow I'll be updating my shop with new art, which is explaining where I've been for the past week. I'm getting ready for a big show in LA Cali. , where 25 pieces of art need to be done within the next couple of weeks.YIKES! Marnie V.

New Hawk Series

I hope everyone is having a great week and I have to say that today in Texas, the weather is gorgeous! I have been waiting for days like this to come and it's finally here. I am also going to wish everyone an early Happy Valentines Day. Tomorrow I'll be going to Dallas, to the showroom to be exact, and Saturday I promised my husband that I wouldn't work. I also wanted to start showing everyone little spaces in my home that pretty much reflect us, to be point blank. So above is out fireplace that is in our family room. As you can see it's decorated for Valentines, but not with your typical red and pink hearts, mine are multicolored. I have three boys, even though they do love pink. This felt garland was made by me last year and it used to hang in my showroom in Dallas, but I opted to bring it home and I'm glad I did. My boys told me last night how good they thought it looked on out fireplace and after taking this picture, I have to agree.

So on to some news. I am launching today on my ETSY a new series of little wood paintings called " Hello my name is....". They are little pieces of eco friendly wood hung with hemp string and are painted with a character on each. On the back of each one it will say " Hello...my name is Hawk"(example). They are really cute and each one has special painted patterning, I call it. Their will only be fifteen in the series and I will not be duplicating them. I will introduce two into the shop today and every day more will be added. I also decided to do free shipping on these items since this is a special series...they are really cute. It is such a beautiful day today in Texas! I went for a 3 mile run this morning which felt amazing...my goal is to run at least 10-12 miles a week. I love the runners high I get..it's amazing. And with all the work I need to do today, let's hope my run gives me extra energy.

So above is the 5th little painting of the week and it's in the shop. My inspiration came from a balloon that flew into my own yard last week and thinking that when I was a child, wishing a balloon would take me for a ride. Here's a little blurb about the painting.

Leave it to Henry the squirrel to grab a hold of this big heart balloon. It came down down from the sky looking so interesting and such, that Henry grabbed the string with curious excitement! You can tell by the look on his face that he never wants to let go. I love this little painting! Don't you?

" My Favorite Chair"

I don't know if I've ever mentioned that I love Mod furniture. My own decor in my house is both modern and traditional, which I love. I usually flip through magazines and tear out pages upon pages to get ideas of my own home. I even keep them in a binder when I need a little inspiration.
So here is one of my favorite chairs of all time that I LOVE. I don't even own an Eames chair, but someday I definitely will. And I can just imagine Hawk loving it as well. With this painting I picked the colors based on Hawks coat. I think the mustard and mod green really make him pop out...don't you? I had fun with this painting also because I used to draw samples of furniture when I worked for the furniture company Art for Kids. I did the line drawings for them, among other things, and really learned a lot more on perspective drawing.
I've already put it into the shop and will be sad and happy to see it go. Sad because it's looking cool in my family room right now and happy that someone else will be enjoying it.

Ok...I'm here again with my little Valentine painting #3 titled " Love to Swing". I have painted one similar to this before with only Henry swinging. This time, I added Fancy as well.
Fancy and Henry are all about having the best time in the yard every day and it definitely shows ...they are so cute.
I painted the background in different blue tones with a hidden rubbed blue heart above. I think the sky is loving these adorable squirrels laughing on the swing. Yes...I'm here. I've been dealing with the post office today by phone as to why some of my International orders that I shipped in January were never delivered. So the man tells me that they have had the highest rate of thefts for International shipping and US shipping in the past 6 months then they've had in the last 5 years. Gosh....it really makes me upset that this happens. I work really hard to get items shipped right away for my customers, so they like me, and honestly...I'm obsessed with getting things ordered out the door. I guess this is a new popular hobby for some people....sad. Please feel free to leave any comments or complaints that you've had with shipping. Just had to get that off my chest.

So basically now, I am no longer shipping International unless the buyer pays for the items or items to be certified. Which can be costly depending on where it is going.

Now let's talk about something happy...oh yes...the new lovely little painting #2. It's titled "Love Notes". It's Moxy the mouse who is a guitar music playing lover. He loves to play and listen to music. He is so cute with his blue guitar too. I painted the background with a celery green and added heart musical notes. A perfect Valentine gift for any music lover. Hello everyone and Happy February. I love the this month. Maybe because I'm in a house filled with 4 men and my boys always make me the best cards. Well, as I said before this week is filled with a new lovely little painting by me everyday.
They will be a one of kind ORIGINAL, and I won't even be printing these. I am also very excited about the line up this week and had a hard time deciding on which one to start with.

So, here it is, my little lovely painting #1. It's titled "Look at my big Heart". Jinks the rabbit is holding his big paper heart up for all to see. And of course this big heart of his reflects his own inner heart. Jinks loves his life and he should...he gets to play with Hawk the dog all day. I wonder if Jinks will be giving his heart to someone this Valentines........

I have some GREAT news to share....J.AUSTIN Ryan is going to Los Angelas! Starting in March, my line of art that is sold to stores will be in the THEA SHOWROOM in LA! Owners Brandi and Rebeka also have a showroom in Dallas and that's how we met. Brandi, who is beautiful, fell in love with my line....and I'm just so excited. Excited to have my art in the state where I'm originally from. Did I mention that I'm so excited!!!!

Lovely Little Paintings

So I've been pretty busy around my neck of the woods. Between contract work, the line I sell to stores, and the Hawk collection(new term), I am still finding time to sleep.
I've also been creating lovely little paintings for Valentines Day in my ETSY shop, which are pictured above.
And with all of this, I wanted to do something fun for my buyers. I've decided to add a new lovely little painting starting on February 1st-the 7th(everyday)in my shop. And I'll also be featuring it on my blog and giving it's little story behind it. Each painting will reflect Valentines day and the ones we love, hence why I'm calling these lovely little paintings. Each painting will also be available for purchase in the shop....just in case you love it.
The last painting, on February 7th, will be a giveaway painting. I'll post the painting on my blog, and will pick a random winner from the comments a couple days later(Feb. 9th). That way, you can receive your little painting by Valentines Day.

First little Art of the Year!

And the first piece of art of the year is " Love and Devotion". My friend Mario actually titled it for me....thanks Mario! A sweet little painting of Henry and Tank giving big hugs to their friend Hawk. The background is painted in mixed tones of pinks and oranges. Hello Again!

Hello Everyone and hope you all had a wonderful holiday...as we did. We spent tons of time with the boys, well, all our time. I didn't even paint once over the past two weeks, I guess I actually took a mini vacation. And of course, it felt absolutely wonderful. We ate tons of great food, attended a few Holiday parties, and spent time with family. We also celebrated 2 birthday boys in the family which included parties. Jacob my oldest is now 13...wow. And Austin my youngest is 9.

We also picked up a new family hobby, paintball. Yes, I'm doing it too. It is so fun and what a stress reliever. My husband even bought me a pink paintball gun...it is so cute, I'll have to post a picture of it. It's also amazing how serious some of these players are and how many other families are joining in on the fun as well. Here are some photos from one of the trips.

So now onto business news. I have a big next couple of weeks ahead. Starting Jan. 14th - 21st, I have a show in Dallas. This show is for my stores and it's the biggest of the year. So, let's just say I'm busy creating new art that needs to be up in two weeks. I am adding around 7 new pieces to the line and can't wait for them to be seen.

I am also creating a new banner for my blog so look for that soon. And of course, many new pieces of art for the new year.

Rocket Dog Scores

So you might say this is a little over the top, but a certain customer, along with her football loving son will totally disagree. This painting is a custom piece that was commissioned from the Gallery ART251. And the lucky boy who this is for, well, I think it's a Christmas present...and I'm pretty sure he doesn't read my blog. I think he will love it and hope his mom does too. I actually had a tough time with this one, probably because my boys are football crazy and I wanted to make sure it was going to be loved by it's fan.
So..I brought in the judges(my boys). After a few negative comments and suggestions, in turn I added....fixed and then brought them back again. They LOVED it! Yea!

I am finishing up a few more commissions this week and through the weekend. Come Monday, I will not be painting for an entire WEEK! Did you hear that Dear..I have to make sure I tell my husband that...and I'm sure I'll get a hug and kiss as well.
My break is over and it's back to painting. I'll post again Friday(cross your fingers) on another commission I've been working on. Have a great day! Marnie

Excuse me for being absent this week, but I have been swamped in biz. And as I've said in the past, painting, shipping, and my kids come before blogging. I am barely awake right now due to extremely late nights this week. I think I'm even on my third cup of coffee this morning...which I have never done before. I didn't even exercise this week I've been so busy. Ok.. I've said enough about what I've been doing and why I haven't been around.
Well, above are some more custom dog paintings that I have been working on. These were both painted on 8x10"s and turned out fabulous. I can't wait for the owners to see them in person.

Lately I have been creating a ton of custom pieces for clients on ETSY and around town. Above is Lucy, who I really enjoyed painting. Our Thanksgiving

We had a great Thanksgiving! Austin said it was his best ever, and I'd have to agree. I hosted this year for the first time and it really was not that bad. I started preparing the day before so that I wasn't a crazy lady the day of. I have always been the type to use items around my home for decorating and even outside since I love to garden. The boys and I collected, trim branches, and picked flowers out side for our decor, it was fun. Of course, a little rock throwing came into play, BOYS! So here are some photos.

We made some desserts in the morning. Chocolate covered Oreo's with sprinkles, the boys made. And I made a chocolate cake with a turkey on top. My boys aren't big fans of pumpkin pie, so I made this for them. It was the hit of the night actually. I didn't take photos of any other food because by the time it came out of the oven it was in our bellies.:>)
Like I said, we pulled greens from the yard to add in the decorating.I even added cranberries to the vases with little orange flowers from my yard, they looked so pretty. Austin and Ryan helped out with this.
Well, I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving as we did. And no, my kids are not drinking wine, it's sparkling apple cider. Don't think the thought didn't cross my mind, especially with the rock fight in the yard. It's back to reality today, work! Have a great day. Marnie

The photo above is a painting I created about 2 weeks ago. It lasted about a day on my Etsy! The title of it is " The Giant Feast ". So, I'm wishing everyone a Happy Giant Feast tomorrow.
I'm hosting this year at my house so the boys and I have been preparing all day, that's why I've been a little absent today. We've been baking and making homemade decorations. We have also been collecting fall foliage from outside, such as branches and leaves, to decorate as well. I really have done this on a budget and because I'm a green freak! I'll try to take some pictures for all to see. I'll be back next week because my husband is banning me from my computer for the rest of the weekend. Of course, I'll sneak in a few times.

Giving to Charity

At least twice a month I give to local and nationwide charities that usually involve children. And with the local, I usually attend. But, between football and sick kids, this time I was absent. Over the weekend an organization, known as Rotary, got together and put on a silent auction to raise funds to build another medical clinic in Nicaragua. The clinic is for children and their families to receive the medical treatments that they all need. It's a great cause and I've been donating my art for the past couple of years. And, it feels great to know that I was apart of it. I even get my boys involved when charity comes around. I always show them what I'm donating and always ask one of them to wrap it up for me. Because of it, they have become more understanding of what goes on in other parts of the world.
So above is a print, along with the frame, of what I donated. It's titled "Happy Day". I heard it did fantastic at the event, let's just say their were bids on it before it hit the table. LOVE that! Way to go Hawk. Well, I have a son home sick AGAIN and I'm doing custom orders today and shipping and ....oh you know...EVERYTHING! Have a wonderful day. Marnie V.

We are going to the SUPER BOWL!

It's Sunday morning, coffee in hand, and I'm blogging. I don't usually come on this blog bragging about my boys athleticism but my silence has to be broken for this. My son Ryan, who is 11, is a stud at football. Or maybe I should say ROCK STAR according to my friend Mel. He plays a few different positions depending on the plays. Running back, tight end, wide receiver, and maybe a few others. He averages at least 2 or more touchdowns a game...HONESTLY! But to be even more honest, his entire team plays just as well. Their coaches Pat and Donovan, who we love, have brought a team together like no other. These boys have formed the most amazing bond and love for these coaches.
So back to Ryan. Ryan honestly has something here. My husband and I have been watching him and his moves. It will take at least three people to tackle him down. My husband always asks him before the game, " How many people will it take to bring you down?" And Ryan says, " At least twelve Dad." We watch him in amazement though, when he drives through a line and the other team is hanging on him but he keeps going. It actually is hilarious at times. His legs don't stop moving and that is the key.
It's pretty normal for someone on the other team to come over and tell him what a great job he did. I even had the commissioner tell me that the board talks about Ryan. And that's when I knew my thoughts about how talented he was really came into focus. But what he has, came from his hard work.
Ryan practices all the time as well. Everyday after school Ryan , Austin , and I go outside and throw at least 500 passes, between all three of us. then I turn into Quarterback Mom and Ryan will tell me his plays and I will throw. He never misses a catch. Well, maybe one. All three of my boys also get together with the over 20 kids that live on my street, and they play football every day. Most of the boys play high school and middle school ball. So Ryan has been getting a lot of practice. He loves how well he is doing and he knows that practice makes perfect! He's not perfect though...so don't think I'm a snob. But even my son Austin, who has been working on his catching this year, is awesome now too. I truly believe in getting your kids outside and working on things that will in return make them a better player. It will also boost their confidence. Ryan is in the white pants.
So, like I said they made it through the finals and are going to the super bowl! They play in 2 weeks and I will definitely keep you posted on the results. Happy Day

Oh what a Happy Day it is here in Texas. It's about 50 degrees, but the sun is out..yeah! So above is my new painting, well, it was new and lasted only 2 hours on ETSY before it sold. LOVE that! But, now it's available in print. I think what inspired me is the carefree spirit of animals when they are running around. And I honestly believe they think they are having a Happy Day. Plus I think the colors I chose for this piece are Happy too. It even looks so cute in a frame.

And like any typical day that I have, work. I am creating new pieces this week so don't forget to check the shop often. I'm finally getting caught up on paper work thanks to my son Ryan, who is great at filing receipts and shipped orders. My kids love this business stuff, plus I've mentioned prior that my oldest Jake is great at invoicing my stores. Ok...enough is enough and it's work time. Have a happy day! Marnie V.

My Balancing Act

Honestly...this is me. Trying to balance all of my duties everyday. And, to be quite honest, this is how I feel most days. I'm not perfect, for any of you who remotely thought at the least that I was. I don't always get things done on my list, but of course I do eventually. I'm actually a little behind on my schedule of getting things done as of right now. But, I'm slowly accomplishing things in my everyday life, and my nuts haven't fallen to the ground just quite yet.
So I'll be honest again, this little painting was also inspired by the little squirrels that run around my yard all day long collecting nuts for the winter. They are so funny to watch and find myself watching them for minutes on end instead of working. Sometimes I have to close my blinds so I get my work done.
It's time to get back to balancing my day and getting 3/4th's of my list done, hopefully!

Custom Art with Hawk

It's 8:40 am, GIANT cup of coffee in my hand, and I'm finally at the computer. My day is filled with work! To be point blank. I'll be on the computer most of the morning gathering info of my products for a new online store...YEAH! That wants my Art. YEAH again! And my oldest son Jacob is getting braces today. I am still amazed at how big he has gotten and how proud we are of him. He just finished a successful season of football, which he rocked at, gets fantastic grades, and has started a bit of charity work. Love him.
So, now on to Hawk. The photo above is a custom little painting I did through the Gallery ART251. The customer wanted Hawk giving Gabby a rose. What a great idea she had to create such a beautiful design. And the finished product I gave is simply lovely. I may just have to do a little painting of something similar.

And a little up date on the little Chiwawa. The owner Kim emailed me yesterday and told me her boys wanted to meet the artist who painted a picture of their dog. I immediately had tears in my eyes and thought how cool those boys are for wanting to meet the artist. So, I went over to meet them yesterday and they are so sweet. They thanked me and told me His name, which is SKIPPY. And told me how he smiled exactly how I painted him. I was so touched and really felt like I had done something good. I do charity work all the time, but this was definitely different.

Well, my coffee already needs a refill and I have to accomplish a few things before I pull my son out for his braces...so have a great day.-Marnie V.
